Painting the steel parts

Have the steel parts been treated with something such as a rust proofing treatment ?

Can they be over painted with primer as supplied or should they be abraded ?

I normally use Upol System 20 degreaser before the initial high zinc primer on steel parts:

Hi Adrian

The steel parts have a phosphate coating as pretreatment prior to coating or painting, increasing corrosion protection. You can directly use paint on it (or primer if you wish). Except when you have very greasy fingers, in that case a light degreasing would be advised : )
